For my second breakfast recipe, I tried Prince Humperdinck’s Eggs and Soldiers. This seemed a very simple and easy breakfast for a lazy Sunday morning. After all, how hard could it be to whip up some buttered toast and soft-boiled eggs? I was a little hesitant to make eggs with runny yolks (my own ‘gross’ factor), but I summoned up my courage and did it anyway. I decided to supplement our breakfast with some fresh fruit, crispy bacon and sausage.
I anticipated this meal, and bought a set of egg cups and a ‘scorer.’ It made a very pretty presentation.
Then came the moment of truth. What would I find beneath those shells? The ‘scorer’ didn’t work as expected (user error?), and made a bit of a mess. When I got to the yolk, it wasn’t runny. I guess I cooked the eggs too long. My gross factor was erased, but the dipping of the toast into the yolks did not happen.
While this breakfast did not bring me the joy that came with scones and clotted cream, it was simple enough and I learned how not to make soft-boiled eggs. I classify this meal as a “food in the belly” experience. I think my next breakfast will be “Hash You Wish.” Since one of the ingredients for that is “Fire Swamp Boiled Beef” I plan to make that for dinner tonight.
